A gathering of major equipment and materials companies who are leading
development efforts for sustainable packaging for food and consumer
products will take place in conjunction with Earth Day 2009
celebrations, Wednesday, April 22. Hosting the daylong converting
demonstrations for North American packaging converters and product
marketers are specialty materials company Rohm and Haas (NYSE:ROH) along
with Nordmeccanica NA, leading manufacturer of coating and laminating
equipment and the world’s foremost solventless equipment provider.
Demonstrations will take place at Nordmeccanica’s Long Island facility.
According to Giancarlo Caimmi, Nordmeccanica commercial director, "While
sustainability for packaging has been addressed recently in several
meetings worldwide, this will be the first time that a select group of
companies have come together to demonstrate products and technologies to
customers with actual production runs. The purpose is to deliver not
just product information but primarily production solutions that are
actionable today.” On hand and explaining the latest and most advanced
sustainable materials and their suitability for varied packaging needs
will be technical and commercial specialists from Innovia, global
provider of bio-based NatureFlex™ printing films; Rohm and Haas,
supplier of advanced adhesive solutions including Mor-Free™
solventless adhesives for laminating; and EarthFirst®,
global producer of bio-polymer PLA (polylactic acid) films. Also
attending to answer performance questions related to waterborne inks
used in the demonstrations will be printing ink specialists from Sun
Chemical, Siegwerk, and Environmental Inks and Coatings Corporation.
According to John Norder, Rohm and Haas director, packaging and
industrial adhesives in North America, customers of all host companies
will be receiving personal invitations to attend. Others wishing to
attend these demonstration trials should register on-line at go.rohmhaas.com/sustainablepackaging.
"New adhesives advances from Rohm and Haas and dedicated film, ink and
equipment supplier efforts are producing truly sustainable packaging
solutions. We believe the best way to alert all interested parties to
progress in these developments is to bring together those responsible
for sustainable packaging initiatives within their firms and expose them
to live, production scale runs. That’s why these periodic demonstrations
are so important,” says Norder.
Nordmeccanica facilities are located on Long Island in Edgewood, New
York at 250H Executive Drive. Their phone number is 631-242-9898.
