The Plow & Hearth Campaign to Re-Forest America Takes Root

Since first announced in September, Plow & Hearth’s Campaign to Re-Forest America^sm has designated 200,000 trees for distribution to three U.S. national forests. In conjunction with the National Forest Foundation and their heritage programs, Plow & Hearth® aims to help with the reforestation of America with one million trees by the end of 2009.

"In only nine short weeks, we’ve already achieved one-fifth of our goal,” said Plow & Hearth president Tim Hopkins. "It’s clear that our customers share our commitment to the environment, and with their continued support, I’m confident we will reach our one million target.”

After any Plow & Hearth purchase, customers will receive an email that allows them to select among three U.S. national forests to receive a tree-seedling.

• 70,000 tree seedlings have been allocated to the Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan. These trees will help restore the Kirtland’s warbler nesting habitat.
• More than 20 plant and animal species in Florida’s Ocala National Forest will benefit from 54,000 seedlings to replenish the forest’s diminished longleaf pine.
• Fifty-two thousand (52,000) seedlings have been designated for the restoration of the San Bernardino National Forest in California, which wildfires destroyed much of in September 2007.
• Approximately 24,000 have opted to leave it to Plow & Hearth to determine where their seedling is delivered.
