ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) has received a subcontract modification from
The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) for the Family of Advanced
Beyond-line-of-sight Terminals (FAB-T) program. As part of the Boeing
team, ViaSat is developing protected communication equipment that is
designed to provide the U.S. Government with secure strategic and
tactical communications. This award, valued at just over $28 million,
adds additional technical requirements and hardware units to the ViaSat
subcontract.
ViaSat has completed two major FAB-T program deliveries. Prototype
acceptance testing and delivery to the U.S. Air Force is complete as
part of the Boeing team FAB-T terminal delivery. The engineering
development model hardware and software have also been delivered to
Boeing.
The Air Force FAB-T program is designed to provide a multi-mission
capable family of terminals based on a common design and open system
architecture to enable the terminals to communicate with different
satellites. These radio systems enable information exchange between
ground, airborne, and space platforms. Once operational, FAB-T is
designed to provide critical, protected beyond line-of-sight
communications for warfighters via the new Advanced Extremely High
Frequency (Advanced EHF) System, a new class of secure military
satellites. In subsequent increments, FAB-T is expected to enable
interchange with other beyond line-of sight and national satellite
communication systems.
