eBay Inc. President and CEO John Donahoe to Keynote Alibaba Group’s Netrepreneur Summit


John Donahoe, president and CEO of global ecommerce and online payments leader eBay Inc., will be a keynote speaker at the annual Netrepreneur Summit sponsored by Alibaba Group. Donahoe will appear at the Summit on September 10, 2010.

Donahoe, who became eBay CEO in March 2008 after heading the company’s eBay Marketplaces unit, will share with attendees his views on the future of global e-commerce and the strategic direction be believes the industry will take, as well as the opportunities and challenges small businesses entrepreneurs will face as a result.

 

The Netrepreneur Summit, formerly known as the e-Business Conference, will be the highlight of the annual AliFest hosted by Alibaba Group in Hangzhou. This year’s AliFest will also feature the 5th Net Products Trade Fair and the Social Responsibility Evening. Donahoe’s appearance at the Netrepreneur Summit continues Alibaba Group’s tradition of bringing together small businessmen and leading global thought leaders. This year, the program also includes a keynote speech by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Previous speakers at Alibaba Group’s annual event include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Starbuck’s CEO Howard Schultz, Lenovo Chairman Liu Chuanzhi, and Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant.

John Donahoe
eBay Inc. President and CEO

As President and CEO of eBay Inc. since March 31, 2008, John Donahoe has global responsibility for growing the company's e-commerce and payments businesses, which include eBay Marketplaces and PayPal.

John joined eBay in February 2005 as President of eBay Marketplaces, responsible for all elements of eBay's global e-commerce businesses. In this role, he focused on expanding eBay's core business, which accounts for a large percentage of the company's revenues. John also oversaw a number of strategic acquisitions, including Shopping.com, StubHub and classifieds sites, such as Gumtree and LoQUo. During his three-year tenure as President of Marketplaces, revenues and profits for the division doubled.

Prior to eBay, John spent more than 20 years at Bain & Company, a worldwide consulting firm based in Boston. Starting as an Associate Consultant, John rose to become the firm's CEO, where he oversaw Bain's 30 offices and 3,000 employees.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for eBay Inc. and Intel Corp., John is also on the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth College. John received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
