Commerce Energy Group, Inc. (Amex:EGR) today said Steven S. Boss, chief
executive officer, will speak at the 3rd Annual
California Power Market Forum hosted by the Platts division of
McGraw-Hill Companies, a provider of metals and energy information. The
October 29-30 conference is at the JW Marriott San Francisco Hotel.
Boss will deliver a presentation and participate on a panel discussion
regarding California’s retail energy market,
Tuesday, October 30 at 11:30 a.m. He will be joined by Commissioner John
Bohn of the California Public Utilities Commission; Aaron Thomas, chief
commercial officer of Constellation NewEnergy, Inc.; and Ray S. Siada,
corporate energy manager, North America, of Guardian Industries Corp.
The panel, to be moderated by Daniel Douglass, principal of Douglass &
Liddell and counsel for the Alliance for Retail Energy Markets, will
include topics such as the current direct access environment. Among
other questions under discussion will be whether California has the
regulatory and market structure in place to reinstate direct access,
along with issues that need to be addressed to design a sustainable
direct access program.
"Reinstating competition and retail access is
one of the most critical issues facing the California energy scene today,”
said Boss. "Consumers are demanding the chance
to control their energy costs. The people of California deserve a choice
of their retail energy provider and the innovations we believe will
result from a competitive market. I’m pleased
to be taking part in such an important discussion of issues that are
relevant for our entire state.”
The two-day conference also will include presentations and panel
discussions by experts on a variety of energy issues related to
California, including: California’s Approach
to Climate Change; Impact of Greenhouse Gas AB32 and SB1368; California’s
Renewable Portfolio Standards; Regulatory Updates and Utility
Perspectives; How Second Generation Resource Adequacy and Capacity
Markets Can Help California Meet Demand Growth Plans; Benefits of Demand
Response as a Renewable Resource; Private Equity and Venture Capital
Financial Investment in California; How Load Auctions Support
Competitive Markets and Energy Investment; and Retail Competition and
Retail Access.
