Gary D. Forsee, president of the University of Missouri and former
chairman and chief executive officer of Sprint Nextel, has been
appointed to the board of directors of Great Plains Energy Incorporated
(NYSE: GXP). Forsee’s board term will begin immediately.
"We are excited and honored to announce the addition of Gary to our
board of directors,” said Mike Chesser, chairman and CEO, Great Plains
Energy. "Gary’s vast experience in leading one of this region’s and the
nation’s top companies, as well as his current role as the leader of the
University of Missouri system, will bring valuable expertise and
perspective to our board. He is a native of this region and knows our
service territory well. We’re proud to welcome Gary to the Great Plains
Energy and KCP&L family.”
The University of Missouri board of curators hired Forsee to a
three-year term as its president in February of this year. Prior to that
appointment, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of Sprint
Nextel Corporation from 2003-2007. In that role, he oversaw landmark
ventures in wireless and wireline services and initiated new technology
platforms for enhanced mobility in the United States. Fortune
magazine named Sprint Nextel the leading innovator in the telecom
category and the second most admired company in that category in 2006. BusinessWeek
magazine named Forsee one of the best business leaders in America in
2004 and 2005.
Forsee has more than 35 years of experience in telecommunications
including posts at BellSouth, Cingular Wireless, Global One, AT&T and
Southwestern Bell.
"I am very pleased to have been invited to join the Great Plains Energy
board of directors,” Forsee said. "I look forward to working with Mike
Chesser, Bill Downey and the board members as they face the important
energy issues for its customers and our region.”
