John J. Sherman, president and CEO of Inergy, L.P. (NADSAQ: NRGY), has
been appointed to the board of directors of Great Plains Energy
Incorporated (NYSE: GXP) and its two public utility subsidiaries.
"We are excited and honored to announce John’s appointment to our board
of directors,” said Mike Chesser, chairman and CEO, Great Plains Energy.
"John brings exceptional experience in leading one of this country’s
foremost propane and natural gas companies, and a wealth of knowledge
and valuable perspective to our board. We are proud to welcome John to
the Great Plains Energy and KCP&L family.”
Sherman founded Inergy in 1998 and has led the company’s growth from a
small regional propane company into the country’s fifth largest propane
distributor and a leading developer and operator of natural gas storage
in the Northeast U.S.
Sherman began his 25-year career in the propane industry with Ferrellgas
in 1984. From 1991 until 1996, Sherman served as President of LPG
Services Group, a company he cofounded and guided to become one of the
nation's largest wholesale propane marketers. LPG Services Group was
later acquired by Dynegy and Sherman served as Vice President with
Dynegy until founding Inergy.
Mr. Sherman is actively involved in the Kansas City community in a
multitude of ways. He is currently on the board of directors for the
Truman Library and the American Royal and is a Trustee of both the
University of Missouri – Kansas City and St. Paul’s School. He is also
on the board of directors of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Great Plains Energy
board of directors,” Sherman said. "I look forward to working with Mike
Chesser, Bill Downey and the other board members as they navigate the
changing landscape of the electric utility industry.”
