Sandra Hagelstam, 24, is the founder of the hot fashion blog 5inchdesandup.com. She started blogging to create a daily log of what she wears. The Finland native enjoys photography, fashion, and has aspirations of being a commercial designer, and says her studies as a fashion design and marketing student at London College of Fashion are the reason her blog has become so successful. "(The blog) has opened up doors for me I never would have imagined in terms of being able to design my own collection and collaborate with others." Most recently, Diesel asked Sandra to be part of their re-design campaign. She was featured in an Italian magazine last month. "They're trying to completely re-launch their brand, and it caught me eye," Sandra said. She admitted that Diesel had seemed outdated; a brand she was interested in when she was 17 or 18. Now, Diesel has a Finnish designer at the realm, and Sandra feels connected with her country mate and jumped on board. "They showed me the new collection and I feel really good about it," Sandra said. "It's stuff I would pick out to wear myself."Even when doing a photo shoot for Diesel, Sandra gets to bring some of her own shoes, clothes and accessories so she can show how she would pair the Diesel apparel with items she already owns. She reiterated that she's not a model. She was hired to show her face and her personal style. Sandra said she doesn't know exactly why her blog, which she created in February 2010, started receiving heavy traffic, but think she finds some "non-traditional" ways to "look good" by mixing and matching designer duds with vintage pieces she scoops up. "It still astonishes me people read my blog," she said. "I hope they think there's quality photography on it, that's where I feel the value really lies.""Understanding the marketing behind the fashion has given me a good sense of what I should be writing about," Sandra said. "Now as the end of my education nears, I'm starting to realize the blog could be a full time job. ... Hopefully more people will take advantage of that, turning a blog into a business."The name of the blog comes from Sandra's short height.
