B2Gold reports fatal shooting at its Masbate operation in the Philippines

B2Gold (TSE:BTO) (NYSEMKT:BTG) says that two security guards at its Masbate gold project in the Philippines have been fatally shot. The two guards, who were employees of security contractor Kublai Khan Security Services, were shot at their guard post. The incident, which occured in the early hours of today Philippine time, is currently under investigation by the local police, according to the Vancouver, BC-based company's statement."At Masbate Gold Project we remain committed to work with the National Government, Regional Government, KKSS, and local communities to prevent recurrence of such tragic events," B2Gold said in its release.B2Gold has three operating mines, including two in Nicaragua and the Masbate project in the Philippines, as well as a portfolio of development and exploration assets in Namibia, Nicaragua, Mali, Burkina Faso and Colombia.The Masbate gold mine is located on the island of Masbate, about 350 km south of Manila.The Canadian gold miner is expected to surpass the 0.5 million ounce gold production mark in 2015 after reporting last month its first gold pour from its 90-percent owned Otjikoto mine in Namibia.
