The Boston Society for Architecture to Host the 2025 Wagdy Anis Symposium on Building Science on October 9, 2025
The symposium will explore data-driven retrofits of existing buildings to improve their energy performance in order to meet goals for mitigating climate change through reduction in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
BOSTON, Sept. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boston Society for Architecture (BSA), a non-profit membership organization focused on improving the quality of life for Boston-area residents by championing innovation in the built environment, and the Boston Building Enclosure Council (B-BEC), a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote technical excellence in the design and construction of the building enclosure, will be hosting the 2025 Wagdy Anis Symposium on Building Science on October 9, 2025 in Boston and virtually online. AEC professionals are invited to attend the symposium as it will explore the power of data and modeling for optimizing the impact of building enclosure retrofits.
According to Architecture 2030, 27.3% of worldwide carbon dioxide emissions is generated by the energy required to run building operations. Furthermore, the energy needed to produce cement, iron, steel and aluminum for building construction generates another 15% of the global carbon dioxide emissions. Both of these issues can be addressed with energy performance upgrades to the enormous stock of existing buildings in the United States. By preserving the fabric of existing buildings, there can be a significant reduction in the energy used to produce new construction materials and a reduction in operational energy by creating more energy-efficient building enclosures.
The symposium will take place at the Fort Point Room and BSA Space at 290 Congress Street, Boston, MA 02210, and virtually on Thursday, 9 October 2025, 8am - 6pm. The Reception Sponsor for the event is the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA).
Wagdy Anis served the architectural profession as a skilled problem solver, teacher, and advocate for the integrity and performance of the building enclosure in a career that spanned more than five decades. During his 40-year tenure at Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott, Anis became a leader in the application of building science principles to the practice of building enclosure design. In 2008 he joined Wiss, Janney, Elstner as a building enclosure consultant. Seven years later he established his own practice, Anis Building Enclosure Consulting
