China Huadian Backs Central Asia's Push Toward Sustainable, Low-Carbon Energy

China Huadian Corporation Ltd. is stepping up efforts to support Central Asia's transition to cleaner energy sources, said Zhu Bin, the company's director, during remarks at the China–Central Asia Cooperation Development Forum and the 3rd Silk Road International Communication Forum on June 22. Zhu noted that China Huadian currently holds the largest volume of power generation capacity under construction among Chinese firms operating in the region.
The forums, held the same day in Astana, Kazakhstan, brought together approximately 240 participants from media outlets, think tanks, cultural institutions, and business communities across China and Central Asia for wide-ranging discussions on enhancing cooperation under the Silk Road framework.
In his address, Zhu reaffirmed China Huadian's commitment to advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and implementing the agreements reached during the China–Central Asia Summit. He underscored the company's efforts to expand its clean energy capabilities and deliver high-quality, environmentally responsible products—positioning Huadian as a leading force in sustainable development within the Belt and Road framework. He also emphasized the company's focus on strengthening environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) performance. According to Zhu, Huadian's goal is to become a global leader in energy while providing meaningful support to Central Asian nations in their pursuit of their transition to low-carbon solutions.
In recent years, China Huadian has launched several major energy projects in the region. In Aktau, located in Kazakhstan's Mangystau Region, the company is developing a 160-megawatt gas turbine facility. In Shieli, within the Kyzylorda Region, it has completed a 33.3-megawatt solar power installation, supplying clean, low-emissions energy to local communities. Meanwhile, in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh Region, the company is building a 500-megawatt solar project. Its integrated industrial development model is being viewed as a new standard for energy transition and innovation in the region.
China Huadian ranks among the world's largest energy providers, with operations spanning the investment, construction, and management of energy and power infrastructure. It has appeared on the Fortune Global 500 list for 13 consecutive years. The company currently operates 242 gigawatts of installed power generation capacity, 56.2% of which comes from clean energy sources.
