NEW YORK, May 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- More than five years since Americans stood on their balconies to applaud exhausted healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 250 mayors and county officials have joined the nonprofit organization Frontline Builders to extend the tradition of gratitude to the tens of millions of healthcare workers, first responders, and educators who keep our towns and cities safe, healthy, and thriving every day. Together, leaders in every state, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico have issued mayoral proclamations designating May 'Frontline Workers Appreciation Month.'

Says Kirk Watson, Mayor of Austin, Texas, "This month serves as a crucial reminder for just how vital these dedicated heroes are to the fabric of our communities and our country. Whether it's a nurse providing care to those in need, a teacher shaping the next generation, or a first responder answering the call when danger strikes, their work is the backbone of a safe, healthy, and thriving society. Our communities simply couldn't function without them and they deserve our recognition and thanks every day."
Says Frontline Builders Director, Jason Lalak, "This official recognition for our frontline heroes is long overdue. These selfless Americans consistently put aside their own needs to put their communities first, showing up for us and our families when we need it most. Their courage and compassion transcends the divisions that separate us today — just one of the many reasons they should be celebrated all year long."
Frontline Workers comprise about 70% of the U.S. workforce, ensuring the delivery of critical services across healthcare, education, and public safety. Acknowledging their efforts is key to improving morale, retaining skilled workers, and attracting new talent to these vital roles. Studies show that recognizing frontline workers' contributions leads to higher job satisfaction and strengthens community support, ultimately benefiting us all.
