University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and APhA Foundation Announce Collaboration

WASHINGTON, June 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Iowa (UI) College of Pharmacy, American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and the APhA Foundation are pleased to announce their partnership in celebrating the legacy of Zada Mary Cooper

The UI College of Pharmacy, APhA, and APhA Foundation will partner to award the Zada Cooper Leadership Medal annually to an individual who has made notable strides in advancing leadership within the pharmacy profession, championing collaboration, advocacy, and mentorship to improve health care for all.

The medal will be presented at the APhA Annual Meeting during the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Development Forum. The award recipient will also deliver the Zada Cooper Leadership Medal Domer Lecture as part of the forum's programming.

Since 2016, the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy has hosted the annual Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium to honor Zada Cooper, a pioneering figure in the profession. Known as the "Grand and Glorious Lady of Pharmacy," Cooper is commemorated in the Women in Pharmacy Exhibit and Conference Room at APhA headquarters in Washington, D.C. She was an exceptional educator, mentor, and innovator who inspired generations of students. Cooper is one of the APhA Women's Section founders, established the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and Rho Chi Society, and served as secretary of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy for 20 years.
