The plant will deliver 30 million gallons (113 million liters) per day of potable water, and forms part of the City of Corpus Christi's drive to ensure a long-term, drought-resilient water supply for the Coastal Bend region.

The plant will be among the world's most efficient desalination facilities, delivering high-quality potable water with the lowest possible energy consumption. Construction is expected to start in early 2026, with completion scheduled for 2028. The City of Corpus Christi has selected Kiewit to act as prime contractor, and GHD to provide process design services.

"As an American company with deep roots in desalination, delivering our technology for Texas' first large-scale SWRO plant – and one of the largest in North America – is a real source of pride for Aquatech," said Ravi Chidambaran, CTO & President at Aquatech. "This project's unmatched energy efficiency, along with its innovative approach to mitigating biofouling and minimizing chemical use, will provide the Coastal Bend region with an affordable, drought-resilient water source of the highest quality."

Founded in 1981 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Aquatech employs hundreds of people across the US and has delivered dozens of complex water projects for Texas' industrial sector. In 2025, Houston saw the launch of Aquatech's third US-based project development and engineering hub, which will be followed by a regional water services hub in 2026.

Aquatech is a global leader in advanced water technology, with successful operating references in seawater desalination achieving landmark energy efficiency in Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.
