From Cult Thriller to Real-Life Dares: The Producers of Would You Rather Launch CAJOLE -- A Platform Asking How Far You'd Go for the Right Price
LOS ANGELES, June 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- What would it take for you to be buried alive? Pour a bucket of nacho cheese over your head? Tattoo a corporate logo onto your lower back?
It's no longer just the stuff of twisted fiction. Welcome to Cajole — a provocative new social experiment from the producers (and director) of the cult horror film Would You Rather. Live at www.cajole.com, the platform invites people around the world to name their price—and prove how far they're willing to go when cash is on the table.
The idea behind Cajole was sparked years ago in dorm room debates: How much would it take to do something truly uncomfortable? What started as lighthearted banter eventually took shape as Would You Rather, the psychological thriller where financial incentives pushed characters into chilling moral territory. In the film, Brittany Snow's vegetarian character is offered money to eat steak. John Heard is a recovering alcoholic that is dared to drink whiskey. Now, with Cajole, those once-fictional dilemmas are leaping into real life—and onto the internet.
"As we looked back at Would You Rather and those old conversations with friends, we realized we've always been obsessed with the idea of financial incentive as a motivator," say David Levy and Morgan Conrad, co-founders of Cajole. "Mix that with our fascination with Black Mirror and its dark takes on tech-fueled manipulation, and Cajole was the next logical step. What happens when everyday people are offered real money to cross their own lines?"
So far, the results have been equal parts hilarious, disturbing, and unforgettable. Actress Morena Baccarin drenched herself in nacho cheese to raise money for NYC-based arts nonprofit Waterwell. Robb Wells, star of Trailer Park Boys, agreed to be buried alive for the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. And in Atlanta, one bold man scored $5,000 for tattooing a Monster Energy tramp stamp.
Is it satire? Performance art? A sharp critique of our attention economy—or just a new way to make quick cash?
Or maybe, it's exactly the kind of cultural experiment this moment was made for.
Time—and the dares people accept—will tell.
