WestExec Advisors Names Former Representative Mac Thornberry as Principal, Further Strengthening Congressional, Defense, and Innovation Advisory Capabilities
WASHINGTON, June 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- WestExec Advisors, a leading bipartisan strategic and geopolitical risk advisory firm, is pleased to announce that Mac Thornberry (R-TX), former member of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and one of the most influential voices in U.S. defense policy over the last three decades, has been named a Principal of the firm. Respected across party lines and a trusted counselor to both policymakers and business leaders, he will further enhance WestExec's well-established technology, defense, and growing congressional advisory capabilities.
Mac brings more than 35 years of experience shaping national security strategy and policy at the highest levels of government. During his 26 years in Congress, he played a central role in modernizing the U.S. military, providing the Department of Defense with new authorities and direction to more rapidly integrate innovative emerging technologies into the force. In addition to chairing the Armed Services Committee, he served for over a decade on the House Intelligence Committee. In recognition of his service, Congress named the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act in his honor—the first time the bill was named for an individual Member of Congress.
Since retiring from Congress, Mac has continued to shape the national security landscape, chairing the RAND National Security Advisory Board and the Emerging Threats Institute Advisory Board for the National Defense Industrial Association. He also serves on the boards of Booz Allen Hamilton, CAE USA, and Fortinet Federal, and advises several public- and private-sector organizations, including the Special Competitive Studies Project. Mac's career has been distinguished by a focus on strengthening U.S. defense capabilities, promoting innovation, and ensuring bipartisan cooperation on matters of national security. His contributions have been recognized with Distinguished Service Medals from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and with the Peace Through Strength Award from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
"We are so pleased and honored to welcome Mac to WestExec. His record of public service and deep expertise in defense strategy, intelligence matters, and the intersection of technology and national security are unparalleled," said Michèle Flournoy, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of WestExec Advisors. She continued, "As a member of our growing team with deep experience on Capitol Hill, he will play a critical role advising our clients on these complex, interconnected issues as well as how Congress and the Executive Branch are addressing them."
WestExec continues to expand its congressional strategy offering by adding seasoned professionals who deepen the firm's ability to assist clients in navigating the increasing complexities of Capitol Hill. This distinguished group includes two former Staff Directors of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee—Johnnie Kaberle and Robert Blair—as well as Senate Intelligence Committee veterans Emily Harding and Brett Freeman, Arun Seraphin from the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Alexis Prieur L'Heureux, former Chief of Staff to Rep. Seth Moulton.
