Crowell Life Sciences will deliver market-leading industry, trade, and government experience at every stage of growth

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP and Faber Daeufer & Itrato PC have combined to provide companies, academic research institutions, and investors in the life sciences ecosystem with integrated and industry-leading transactional, regulatory, intellectual property, and litigation counsel distinguished by deep industry, trade, and government experience in the U.S. and Europe.

Crowell & Moring chair Philip Inglima and Faber Daeufer & Itrato founder and managing principal Joseph Faber

By bringing together Faber's leading life sciences-focused venture finance and R&D transactional practice and Crowell's strengths in health care regulatory, government contracting, export controls, data privacy, patent prosecution, and health care and IP litigation, Crowell Life Sciences will provide clients with solution-oriented guidance and inside perspective in a dynamic business environment.

The Faber team is uniquely comprised of former in-house lawyers and business executives in biopharma, private fund professionals, and contract specialists from pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations. Drawing on their front-line industry knowledge, they deliver pragmatic corporate and transactional counsel to life sciences companies from start-up through commercialization, to investment firms, to academic research institutions, and to NGOs involved in the discovery, development, manufacture, and commercialization of novel therapeutics, devices, and research tools aided by emerging AI and in silico technologies. They have provided legal and business counsel to over 2,500 clients on a wide range of transactions – from M&A, product and platform licensing, and other strategic collaborations, to the high-volume day-to-day contracts that accelerate value creation by engaging business and scientific partners globally.

"Companies and investors across the life sciences ecosystem confront both significant opportunities to pursue business growth, as well as numerous challenges, including the potential impact of new tariff regimes, disruption of supply chains, and an expanding array of complex business compliance considerations. The combination of Crowell and Faber will provide clients the experienced, industry-focused counsel they need to achieve their business objectives," said Philip T. Inglima, chair of Crowell's Management Board.

"We have been seeing our clients struggle with several powerful and accelerating trends in the life sciences industry," said Joseph L. Faber, founder and managing principal of Faber. "These include increased cross-border engagement with investors and with business and scientific partners, even by our early-stage clients, as well as the increased complexity of designing R&D and go-to-market strategies in a rapidly changing regulatory and public policy environment. We believe the Crowell and Faber combination will best position us to support life sciences clients as they navigate this new landscape."

Gregory J. Ikonen, Faber principal and incoming chair of the Crowell Life Sciences group, noted, "We are excited to join Crowell. Faber's 20-plus year track record as a life sciences focused R&D transactional practice has combined deep technical expertise in complex licensing and development agreements with pragmatic counsel based on experience working inside legal, business, and leadership teams at mature companies in this sector. Now, as Crowell Life Sciences, we'll be able to leverage adjacent capabilities that have become increasingly critical to shaping these transactions, including U.S. and EU regulatory, export controls, international trade, government contracting, and global patent prosecution."

Approximately 50 Faber lawyers and professional staff will join Crowell in Boston, New York, San Francisco, and London and work closely with Crowell's team in Washington, Brussels, Singapore, and other key business centers. Crowell will open an office in Boston, building on Faber's strong presence in that life sciences community over the past 20 years.

"As our client-base in the Boston area has grown, we have increasingly looked at opening an office to address this growing demand. The combination with Faber, which has deep Boston roots, provides Crowell and our clients with an excellent platform in one of the most dynamic legal markets in the U.S.," said Stephen J. McBrady, a member of Crowell's Executive Committee.
