Pat Livney's Personal Fight Sparks Immediate Action to Help Patients Walk Today and Invest in a Cure for Tomorrow

CHICAGO, May 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- A new nonprofit, Cure CMT, has launched to deliver urgent, life-changing care to people living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, starting with braces and surgery that restore mobility, and extending to a bold venture-backed mission to find a cure. Founded by patient and healthcare entrepreneur Pat Livney, Cure CMT addresses a critical and long-overlooked gap: access to mobility-preserving interventions now for those suffering with CMT.

CMT is one of the most common inherited neurological disorders, affecting more than 3 million people globally. Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease progressively damages the peripheral nerves, leading to muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and foot deformities.

Yet most patients still lack access to basic care, like custom braces or corrective surgery, that could drastically improve their quality of life. Cure CMT is the first national organization laser-focused on delivering those essentials while simultaneously building the infrastructure needed to fund a cure.

"This is deeply personal," said Cure CMT Founder and CEO Pat Livney"I know what it's like to lose mobility and what it takes to get it back. We're getting people the help they need right now, while investing in a future where they won't need it at all."

The organization's newly launched site, www.cure-cmt.org, connects patients with providers, and serves as a centralized hub for care resources. At the same time, Cure CMT is laying the groundwork for a first-of-its-kind venture philanthropy model that will direct private capital into scientific innovation and therapeutic development.

"We're pairing urgent care with long-term solutions," added Livney. "This is about braces, surgeries, and breakthroughs."

Cure CMT is building partnerships with clinicians, prosthetists, and orthopedic surgeons nationwide to streamline referrals and ensure equitable access to care. The organization also advocates for increased awareness, early diagnosis, and better health coverage for those with inherited neuropathies.
