Finance chief vows 'one team' efforts with BOK to support Korean economy

Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol on Thursday pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Bank of Korea (BOK), working as "one team" to support the Korean economy amid growing domestic and global challenges. Koo made the remarks during his first visit to the central bank in Seoul since taking office last month. "We will become one team for the economy," Koo said ahead of his meeting with BOK Gov. Rhee Chang-yong, adding that he would engage in close consultations with the BOK with a sense of urgency. In response, Rhee expressed strong support, saying the central bank will provide full cooperation as a think tank to assist the government's efforts. Referring to the recently concluded tariff negotiations with the United States, Rhee said the outcome helped ease pressure ahead of the BOK's monetary policy meeting next month. "A significant result was achieved during a difficult time," Rhee said. During the meeting, the two reviewed internal and external economic conditions, and discussed broad measures to enhance policy coordination, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
