PRIVACY ALERT: Columbia University Under Investigation for Data Breach of Records

On June 24, 2025, Columbia University became aware of suspicious activity within its information technology systems, which also caused a day long outage. The unauthorized actor had access to at least 460 gigabytes of the following data from Columbia University faculty, staff, applicants, students, and their families: Social Security numbers, student university identification numbers, student financial aid packages, employee pay, citizenship status, and data on applicants, including admission decisions and the programs they applied to.
