PVAMU'S WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH FARM: A BEACON OF INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY, AND COMMUNITY IMPACT
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas, Sept. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Prairie View A&M University is proud to highlight the Governor Bill & Vara Daniel Farm & Ranch as a flagship of agricultural innovation, sustainability, and education, whose influence stretches across the nation and draws international interest. Covering more than 770 acres, the Farm powers PVAMU's College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources by bringing together academic inquiry, research breakthroughs, and hands-on experience.
The Farm cultivates a wide range of enterprises: beef cattle, dairy and meat goats, forage crops, natural resources projects, and horticultural cultivation, that extend beyond experiments; students, faculty, and extension agents test, learn, and then carry knowledge from the labs into Texas communities and beyond.
Technology is part of everyday life here. Remote and ground sensing systems, drones, robotics, and tools like smartphone-enabled goat health apps all support precision and efficiency. A GrowSafe residual feed intake system tracks individual animal consumption using electronic IDs to identify and promote more efficient genetic lines.
The infrastructure supports ambitious science. There is a Meat Science Laboratory, a Veterinary Treatment Facility, specialized greenhouses, upgraded poultry units, and the International Goat Research Center, known for work in goat health, genetics, nutrition, and welfare. These facilities underpin training, innovation, and applied research that respond to today's urgent challenges.
The Farm also houses the Algae Center of Excellence, where researchers explore algae's potential in biofuels, wastewater treatment, fertilizers, and sustainable water-food-energy systems. Around every corner, fields and plots serve dual purposes: scientific inquiry and community benefit, from soil-health trials and demonstration plots to student gardens that reinforce food access and nutrition.
What sets this place apart is its breadth and reach. It's a national model; learning here feeds into major conversations about food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture. And its international appeal comes through when research, methods, and impact translate into solutions for regions with similar environmental or economic pressures abroad.
