NEW YORK, June 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center (SNMVC), where WB Engineers+Consultants served as the MEP engineer, was recognized with a 2025 Village Award from the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, SNMVC is the first LGBTQIA+ focused visitor center within the National Park Service, preserving the legacy of the 1969 Stonewall Riots and educating future generations about the ongoing fight for equality. With National Geographic naming it one of the "7 Must-see New Museums in the World," this project stands as a landmark for the Greenwich neighborhood and a national symbol of progress.

SNMVC stands on the same ground where the 1969 Stonewall riots ignited the LGBTQIA+ rights movement in the United States. The SNMVC serves as a historical landmark, with its influence reaching far beyond New York. Since opening in late 2024, it has drawn more than 60,000 visitors from around the globe to honor and learn from the site's legacy.

Led by Associate Principal and Team Leader, Kristen Pecci, the WB Engineers+Consultants team collaborated with EDG Architecture + Engineering, Local Projects, and Parente Development to complete SNMVC. The project included a new mechanical system, electrical distribution, and complete plumbing and drainage renovations. WB served as a trusted advisor to the building operators and Pride Live, helping guide infrastructure decisions and coordinate with city agencies and adjacent properties.

Upgrading SNMVC into a functional space provided some interesting discoveries, including a doorway from the original Stonewall Inn into the dance floor area (through which police entered during the 1969 riots). The doorway, which was carefully excavated, is now part of the museum.

SNMVC has quickly earned widespread acclaim. In addition to the 2025 Village Preservation Award and being featured by National Geographic, it's also been visited by many prominent figures, including Elton John, former Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, and former President Biden. SNMVC has also been recognized by USA Today as one of the "10 best new museums in the US."

"It's been a pleasure to work on this project," said WB's Kristen Pecci. "We helped create a space that honors the legacy of Stonewall, and it was really rewarding to work with such a diverse and talented team."
