Second volume in the "Parallel Old Testament - TANAKH" series continues Gren's mission to preserve and restore biblical text and illuminate Jewish and Greek Traditions

DAMASCUS, Ore., Sept. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Expanding further into a theological deep dive of the Old Testament, Conrad R. Gren has released his second book, "Parallel Old Testament – TANAKH: Volume 2 Numbers and Daniel." Picking up where his first book, "Parallel Old Testament – TANAKH: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Ruth, Jonah, and Habakkuk," left off, his new book presents readers with two new English translations of scripture from Greek and Hebrew.

“Parallel Old Testament – TANAKH: Volume 2 Numbers and Daniel” By Conrad R. Gren

Gren set out to create this parallel translation to help readers better understand the "original" Hebrew Scriptures by bringing together the best tools of modern scholarship. He saw three main avenues for this work: studying the Dead Sea Scrolls, examining how the New Testament uses the Old Testament, and translating the Hebrew scripture and Greek Septuagint. Together, he believes, these can enrich readers knowledge of the oldest Hebrew text.

"While I want to help readers better understand Numbers and Daniel, I also want to preserve the story of God's leadership of human lives and nations from 4,000 years ago," Gren said. "Knowing both the Hebrew and Greek wording of passages in the Hebrew Scriptures, called the Old Testament by Christians and the TANAKH by Jews, strengthens our understanding of why they are similar, how they differ, and how they connect to the Greek New Testament."

This dual translation offers insight into Dead Sea Scroll variants and the New Testament's use of the Old Testament. Many of the scroll variants appear in the text, especially when scholars widely agree they reflect the original reading. Passages quoted in the New Testament are set in bold and accompanied by detailed analysis, allowing readers to see how those quotations connect both to the Greek Old Testament and to the original Hebrew.

The work deepens understanding of Jewish and Greek culture, history and language. Gren translates the Greek and Hebrew texts as literally as possible to make comparison easier, highlighting word origins and spellings in both languages. While each translation stands on its own, presenting them side by side helps readers see the differences and similarities more clearly.

"Parallel Old Testament - TANAKH" acts as a reference and a study tool for both lay readers and scholars interested in linguistic and theological nuances. Gren plans to continue his study and evaluation of biblical languages in future books.
