DOWNTOWN FREDERICK, Md., June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Downtown Frederick Partnership is excited to debut Artopia, a brand-new event celebrating local art and creativity on Saturday, June 7, 2025, with activities throughout Downtown Frederick. This free, all-day event invites the community to experience the city's rich artistic talent through live demonstrations, interactive installations and engaging competitions.

Starting at 10AM, attendees can explore the streets of Downtown Frederick transformed into open-air galleries, featuring impressive chalk art and live plein air painting by Frederick-based artists. Notable highlights include a community mural led by artist Lea Craigie-Marshall at 331 N Market St from 12 – 6PM and original chalk art by Yemi and students from the African Americans of Excellence Award on Maxwell Ave.

As the day progresses, the excitement builds with Artopia's first-ever live art competitions. From 6PM to 7:30PM, student artists will face off in a dynamic challenge at JoJo's Restaurant & Tap House (16–18 E Patrick St), followed by adult artists from 7:30PM to 9PM at Olde Mother Brewing (526 N Market St). In each competition, artists will be given a surprise theme and one hour to create their masterpieces in real time, with the audience voting to determine the winners.

"Artopia is designed to spotlight the incredible creative community we have here in Downtown Frederick," said Kara Norman, Executive Director of Downtown Frederick Partnership. "We're excited to provide a platform for artists of all ages to showcase their talents and for the community to engage with art in a lively, interactive setting."

In addition to the day's festivities, visitors can explore over 15 galleries and studio spaces that call Downtown Frederick home, further enriching the Artopia experience. The Partnership has rented the parking spaces directly in front of these galleries to allow artists to set up tents and display their work, evoking the charm of the artist setups along the creek. Additionally, some of the plein air paintings will be on display in downtown galleries on Sunday.

Artopia coincides with the 31st annual Frederick Festival of the Arts, taking place on June 7 and 8 at Carroll Creek Park, offering attendees a weekend full of artistic exploration and inspiration.
