Kim Keon Hee, wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, arrived at the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday in a prisoner transport vehicle, wearing a navy suit and a face mask as she appeared for the opening of her criminal trial. Her appearance marked the first time in Korea’s history for a former first lady to stand trial on criminal charges. Images of her entering the courtroom were released to the press. The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 27 began proceedings at 2:17 p.m., with Kim facing multiple charges ranging from stock manipulation to illegal political funding and bribery linked to the Unification Church. Kim, who has been in detention since last month, entered the courtroom amid intense media scrutiny. For the first time, the court permitted the release of still and video images of her seated at the defendant’s assigned area before the session began, citing public interest.
