National Institute of Building Sciences Honors Industry Leaders and Students at Building Innovation 2025

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) recognized outstanding contributions to the built environment during an awards luncheon at Building Innovation 2025 (BI2025), one of the premier gatherings for professionals shaping the future of the building industry.

The 2025 award recipients include:

  • NIBS Distinguished Service Award
    Dr. Steven McCabe, Director, Disaster Impact Reduction Office (ret.) National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
     
  • Exceptional Woman in Building Award
    Leslie Chapman-Henderson, President & CEO, Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH)
     
  • Future Leaders Award
    Sam Villalobos, Assistant Project Manager, SKANSKA, Virginia State University
     
  • NIBS Innovator Award
    Recommended Options for Improving the Built Environment for Post-Earthquake Re-occupancy and Functional Recovery Time Report
    Developed by FEMA, NIST, the Applied Technology Council (ATC), and the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI)
     
  • Beyond Green™ High-Performance Building and Community Award
    Pepper Construction Cincinnati Headquarters Historic Rehabilitation
    Project partners: Pepper Construction, Emersion Design, and CMTA

In addition, NIBS awarded the Betty and Mort Marshall Memorial Scholarship to two exceptional students. Established in 2020 to promote diversity in the building sciences, the scholarship supports students pursuing careers in architecture and engineering at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The 2025 scholarship recipients are:

  • Reeja Shrestha, Architecture student, Howard University
     
  • William Corey, Electrical Engineering student, North Carolina A&T State University
