Special counsel asks court to allow live broadcast of ex-President Yoon's trial

A special counsel team asked a court Wednesday to allow live broadcasts of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's new trial on charges related to his failed imposition of martial law. Yoon, who has been standing trial on charges of leading an insurrection through the martial law bid in December, is scheduled to attend the first hearing of the second trial at the Seoul Central District Court on Friday. Immediately after that hearing, he is set to attend a separate hearing at the same court on his request for bail. "We applied for broadcasts after fully considering the people's right to know," assistant special counsel Park Ji-young said during a press briefing. The new trial involves charges of violating the rights of Cabinet members and creating a revised proclamation after the martial law declaration, among others.
