ALBERTSONS TEAMSTERS RATIFY STRONG CONTRACT, AVERT STRIKE
95 Drivers Win Major Gains on Wages, Benefits, and Job Protections
DALLAS, June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 90 Albertsons drivers represented by Teamsters Local 745 have overwhelmingly ratified a new four-year collective bargaining agreement. The new contract secures higher wages, a defined benefit pension plan, Teamsters health care, and critical job protections against the threat of autonomous trucks.
"Our members sent a clear message to Albertsons that they were ready to walk if we didn't get a fair deal," said Michael Perez, Business Agent at Local 745. "This group was ready to strike to win a fair contract. They stood strong to win real protections and put the company on notice. Teamsters won't allow our jobs to be handed over to dangerous machines."
The new contract was reached after workers voted to authorize a strike in May and mounted a credible strike threat that drew national attention. Thousands of Albertsons Teamsters across the country pledged to honor picket lines.
"This agreement gives us the security we need to support our families, retire with dignity, and protect our jobs from automation," said Clyde Jackson, an Albertsons driver and Local 745 shop steward. "We're proud to be working under a strong Teamsters contract."
Throughout negotiations, Albertsons pushed for dangerous contract language that would have opened the door to the use of fully autonomous trucks — part of a broader industry push to test and deploy driverless vehicles in Texas. Local 745 successfully beat back the proposal. The new contract mandates that any autonomous truck operated by the company must have a trained Teamsters operator on board.
"This is a major victory not just for our members in Texas, but for Teamsters across the country," said Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. "We made it clear to management that we will do whatever it takes to protect good union jobs and secure the contract our members deserve."
