Bridging cultures: Citizen diplomat

This November marks many anniversaries, but for me, it is the 75th anniversary of this paper. As I prepare to publish my book, "Bridging Cultures: The Columns of a Citizen Diplomat," I reflect on a journey spanning more than four decades of writing and engagement with readers worldwide. The volume brings together selected columns and reflections from my experiences as a citizen diplomat, cultural advocate and lifelong researcher of traditions and cultures. It serves both as a chronicle of Korea’s evolving global presence and as a personal record of encounters shaped by Korean and international culture, diplomacy and shared human values. They are based on my writings, which I have had the privilege of contributing regularly to this paper since 1979. I am fortunate that the paper has been an erudite mentor, colleague and companion. When I began, I was the youngest contributor; 46 years later, I write with the same sense of responsibility and affection I felt at the start.
