Golf swing assessment uses motion capture analysis to address deficits and enhance performance

CHICAGO, May 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Using state of the art motion capture technology, experts at the Sports Performance and Recovery Center, operated by Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, now has technology -- and a game plan -- to help golfers identify inefficiencies and physical limitations to improve golf swing performance, enhance consistency, and reduce injury risk.

The Comprehensive Golf Performance Assessment uses state-of-the-art 3D motion capture to analyze key physical attributes, including range of motion, strength, balance, and explosive power. Coordinated by trained athletic trainers and physical therapists who specialize in treating golfers using this technology, the golf assessment can both enhance a golfer's performance and help identify and correct pain.

"Our sports performance team offers a unique opportunity for golfers to identify a plan of action to address their unique needs," explains Dave Heidloff, ATC, FRC-MS, PES, and manager of sports performance. "We can work with golf coaches and teaching pros to provide an extra layer of information for their clients."

During the assessment, golfers are asked to repeatedly swing a club while 12 tiny cameras record their movement in high-speed frames. The data is interpreted by a unique program which outputs a movement evaluation. Sports performance trainers also perform a variety of range of motion and strength assessments to provide a full picture of a golfer's biomechanics, including the use of force plates and dynamometers.

From there, a sports performance trainer will provide targeted correction strategies to enhance mobility, strength, and swing mechanics. The data-driven approach helps golfers optimize their movement, increase power, and refine technique to help them play stronger, swing smoother, and lower their scores. Strategies could include at-home exercises, personal training, physical therapy, and/or the use of an app to track progress.

The Sports Performance and Recovery Center is located at Bo Jackson's Elite Sports, 1000 Commerce Ct., Bensenville, IL 60106. A Full Golf Assessment ($495) includes a comprehensive evaluation including full-body movement analysis, 3D motion capture swing analysis, VALD strength testing, and a detailed performance report with personalized recommendations. A 3D swing analysis only ($199) includes an in-depth swing analysis using 3D motion capture technology, identification of movement inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
