HYBE’s Bang Si-hyuk faces prosecution referral over alleged stock misconduct

As South Korea’s financial authorities prepare to refer HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk to prosecutors over allegations of fraudulent trading during the company’s initial public offering (IPO), HYBE has issued a statement defending the legality of its listing process and pledging full cooperation with investigators. Industry sources said on Wednesday that the Capital Market Investigation Deliberation Committee, under the Financial Services Commission’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), recently convened and decided to recommend that Bang be prosecuted for violating the Capital Markets Act. The SFC is expected to formally file the complaint next week. At the center of the case is a 2020 agreement made before HYBE’s listing, in which Bang allegedly promised to share 30 percent of his stake-sale gains with a private equity fund set up by an acquaintance. The fund allegedly received about 400 billion won ($290 million) after HYBE went public.
