NEW YORK CITY — President Lee Jae Myung and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni agreed to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and defense industry during their first bilateral meeting on Wednesday in New York, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Session. During the talk, Lee highlighted the two countries’ commonalities in geography and national character, proposing that governments and businesses on both sides deepen practical cooperation in emerging fields, such as AI and defense, according to the presidential office. Meloni noted that Korea and Italy have developed a balanced partnership across various sectors, including trade and investment. She emphasized the strong potential for expanding economic ties, citing the Korea-Italy Business Forum held in Seoul earlier this month, which drew broad participation from companies of both nations.
