MEMBERS 1ST FEDERAL CREDIT UNION PREPARES PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT MEMBERS AMID POTENTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
ENOLA, Pa., Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With the possibility of a federal government shutdown on October 1, 2025, credit unions across the country are proactively preparing programs to support members who may experience financial hardship. Members 1st Federal Credit Union has been laying the groundwork for weeks to ensure relief options are ready to deploy if needed.
"At Members 1st, our mission has always been to support our members, especially in times of uncertainty," said Mike Wilson, President & CEO of Members 1st Federal Credit Union. "When someone is facing a sudden hardship, your financial institution should be a first line of defense, a source of support and peace of mind. That is why we have prepared a range of solutions designed to provide financial flexibility, services to ease the burden, and offer our members the breathing room they need."
Members 1st is prepared to implement these programs and resources immediately to impacted members who need the following:
- Payment-deferred personal loans, providing six months of breathing room.
- A no-fee skip-a-payment option on existing loans.
- Loan extensions and financial assistance loans.
- Financial education services and support, including one on one counseling through GreenPath.
"Every member's situation is unique, which is why our team is committed to providing personalized support and guidance," Wilson said. "This is a great example of how credit unions, time and time again, do the right thing in finding ways to help their member-owners."
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Members 1st played a pivotal role in supporting local businesses through Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. While a government shutdown presents a different set of challenges, the credit union's commitment remains the same: stepping up to serve individuals, families, veterans, employees, and seniors with creative, member-first solutions.
"This is the credit union difference," Wilson added. "We are here to help and stand in the gap for unexpected events such as natural disasters, government shutdowns or pandemics."
