New Survey Reveals Wisconsin Pet Owners Prefer Cozying up at Home with Their Pets--but Majority Are Skipping Crucial At-Home Preventive Care
VANCOUVER, Wash. , June 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of its 70th anniversary, Banfield Pet Hospital, the nation's leading provider of high-quality preventive care, surveyed 5,000 pet owners across the U.S. to uncover state-by-state pet owner superlatives.
According to these new findings, owners in Wisconsin are among the most likely to enjoy being homebodies with their pets, ranking No. 3 for states reporting feeling happiest staying in with their dog or cat.
Being attached at the hip with their pets doesn't stop there. Of the surveyed Wisconsinites:
- 62% say their pet wants to be in the same room as them at all times.
- 46% say their pet gets excited when they return after leaving the room.
- 59% have traveled out of state with their pet.
- Approximately one in 20 will only take vacations if their pet can join them.
- Nearly one in five (18%) regularly take road trips with their pets.
Despite these heartwarming findings, nearly nine in 10 (89%) say they skip brushing their pet's teeth. This is particularly concerning because:
- Bad breath is more than unpleasant—it can also be a sign of dental disease in pets, which can be associated with oral pain, excessive drooling, bleeding, and reluctance to eat or drink.
- Periodontal disease, a more serious form of dental disease, may also be linked to other health issues, including heart and kidney disease.
- Routine at-home dental care has been shown to be a very important aspect of good oral health, along with annual professional dental cleanings.
With Banfield Pet Hospital locations across the state, Wisconsinites have nearby preventive care access—perfect for homebodies.
