At OpenInfra Summit Europe, the community will showcase how OpenStack, Kubernetes, Kata Containers, Ceph, StarlingX, RISC-V and other projects are tackling a $9 trillion demand for open source software

AUSTIN, Texas, July 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Open source infrastructure solutions for digital sovereignty, VMware migration, and AI workloads will be in the spotlight as members of the OpenInfra Foundation and its global community come together for the OpenInfra Summit Europe, October 17-19, in Paris-Saclay, France. The agenda, available today, highlights how open source software continues to accelerate innovation, distributing value throughout the stack and flowing to providers that deliver the best in open infrastructure.

OpenInfra Summit Europe will be the first OpenInfra Summit convened since the OpenInfra Foundation joined the Linux Foundation, furthering global open source collaboration and unifying some of the most widely adopted open source projects, including Linux, Kubernetes, and OpenStack, collectively known as the OpenInfra Blueprint. Gathering open source infrastructure developers and operators in one place is critical at a time when open source has unleashed nearly $9 trillion in economic value and global OpenStack demand has surged, driven by these trends. The event will be held at the École Polytechnique Campus in Palaiseau, near Paris, France.

OpenInfra Summit Europe will convene business decision-makers, infrastructure architects and open source developers representing many industries, including financial services, government, manufacturing, telecom and IT. The three-day event will feature networking and community-building opportunities, with special plans in place for OpenInfra Summit Europe participants to join the worldwide community in celebrating the 15th anniversary of OpenStack, the world's most widely deployed open source cloud software.

"Over 38% of the global OpenInfra community is in Europe, where the concerns around digital sovereignty are at an all-time high," said Thierry Carrez, general manager of the OpenInfra Foundation. "This adds to security concerns, eroded trust in single-vendor software, and ever-increasing AI demand for accelerated compute capabilities. The OpenInfra ecosystem is uniquely equipped to help organizations in Europe navigate these challenges, with reliable, cost-effective, community-developed open source solutions, while complying with their obligations under incoming EU regulations like the Cyber Resilience Act. These are precisely the issues and solutions we'll discuss at the Summit."

Agenda Highlights: Digital Sovereignty, VMware Migration Success Stories, Open Source AI and More
The OpenInfra Summit Europe will showcase keynotes and sessions that share use cases, lessons learned and best practices. Emphasis will focus on the open infrastructure projects hosted by the OpenInfra Foundation, including OpenStack, Kata Containers, StarlingX and Zuul. Integrations and collaborations with other open source projects – such as Linux, Kubernetes, Ceph, RISC-V, PyTorch and more – will be highlighted as well.

Open source use cases highlighted at the OpenInfra Summit include:

The Gerrit User Summit and VM Migration Day will be co-located with the OpenInfra Summit Europe, and their agendas will be available soon.

Live VMware Migration Demo
Keynote attendees will see a multi-participant, simultaneous demo highlighting the variety of paths organizations can take to migrate workloads from VMware to OpenStack. Participants currently include Canonical, Rackspace and ZConverter.
