If you're interested in broad exposure to the Large Cap Growth segment of the US equity market, look no further than the Vanguard Russell 1000 Growth ETF (VONG), a passively managed exchange traded fund launched on September 22, 2010.The fund is sponsored by Vanguard. It has amassed assets over $30.51 billion, making it one of the largest ETFs attempting to match the Large Cap Growth segment of the US equity market. Why Large Cap GrowthLarge cap companies typically have a market capitalization above $10 billion. They tend to be stable companies with predictable cash flows and are usually less volatile than mid and small cap companies.Qualities of growth stocks include faster growth rates compared to the broader market, as well as higher valuations and higher than average sales and earnings growth rates. Also, growth stocks are a type of equity that carries more risk compared to others. They are likely to outperform value stocks in strong bull markets but over the longer-term, value stocks have delivered better returns than growth stocks in almost all markets. CostsCost is an important factor in selecting the right ETF, and cheaper funds can significantly outperform their more expensive counterparts if all other fundamentals are the same.Annual operating expenses for this ETF are 0.07%, making it one of the least expensive products in the space. It has a 12-month trailing dividend yield of 0.48%.Sector Exposure and Top HoldingsIt is important to delve into an ETF's holdings before investing despite the many upsides to these kinds of funds like diversified exposure, which minimizes single stock risk. Consumer Discretionary and Telecom round out the top three.Looking at individual holdings, Nvidia Corp (NVDA) accounts for about 12.52% of total assets, followed by Microsoft Corp (MSFT) and Apple Inc (AAPL).Performance and RiskVONG seeks to match the performance of the Russell 1000 Growth Index before fees and expenses. In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $82.51 and $115.87.The ETF has a beta of 1.13 and standard deviation of 20.7% for the trailing three-year period, making it a medium risk choice in the space.
