WARRENTON, Va., Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- SPARC Research (https://sparcresearch.com), headquartered in Warrenton, Virginia has secured several sizable propulsion and aerospace-related contracts that have necessitated the expansion of its engineering and prototype manufacturing operations. This includes the build-out of 10,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space at its Warrenton headquarters and opening a new SPARC West engineering office in downtown Cumberland, Maryland.

Under its five-year, $28M Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) research and development contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), SPARC recently  received additional task order funding to (1) design and test an advanced solid rocket motor (SRM), (2) investigate enabling technologies for extended-range missile propulsion systems, and (3) develop and improve advanced solid fuel ramjet (SFRJ) combustion modeling capability for the U.S. Navy and Air Force.

In February 2025, SPARC Research received a contract from the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) to fabricate and deliver Quickstrike Extended Range (QS-ER) Build Load Adapters (BLAs). The first BLA units were received and accepted by the Navy in early May.

In addition, the Department of Defense (DoD) recently announced an award to SPARC Research to expand the solid rocket motor (SRM) industrial base via Title III of the Defense Production Act (DPA). This award supports the Administration's and DoD's objective to expand the munitions industrial base, bolster supply chain resiliency, and increase domestic production in strategic priority areas highlighted in the National Defense Industrial Base Strategy and Implementation Plan. SPARC was awarded $5.1 million to establish a dedicated and affordable supply of rocket motor components for the SRM industrial base. The components produced will support improvements to high-performance propulsion systems.

According to Matthew Cornwell, President of SPARC Research, "Delivering agile aerospace engineering services and quality products to the Department of Defense (DoD) is at the core of our business. To address SPARC's rapid growth and to meet current and future customer needs, we have expanded our footprint with the recent opening of the SPARC West engineering office in Cumberland, Maryland, and we are grateful for the assistance and support of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) to help make it a reality.  SPARC Research's Vice President and SPARC West Site Manager Tom Moore stated, "This expansion is necessary to keep pace with our growing presence in the propulsion engineering and specialty manufacturing market, while facilitating collaboration with regional colleges and universities to attract high end talent to SPARC Research."
