Daegu FC, Gwangju FC retain foreign-born strikers for new season

Two Korean football clubs retained their foreign-born strikers for the new season Wednesday. Daegu FC said they will bring back Brazilian forward Edgar for his ninth season in Korea, though his first in the second-tier K League 2 after Daegu FC suffered direct relegation following the 2025 campaign. In eight previous seasons in the K League 1, Edgar netted 56 goals and assisted on 21 others in 192 matches in all competitions. He had six goals and two helpers in 31 matches in 2025. While veteran foreign players typically leave once their clubs are relegated, Edgar, 38, chose to stick around so he can try to help Daegu return to the top league in 2027. "I am really happy to be back with Daegu FC. I will do everything I can to send Daegu to a place we belong, the K League 1," Edgar said. Daegu FC said they valued Edgar's experience and leadership, which they said will help the team's push for promotion back to the K League 1 in the 2026 season.
