Dr. Jason S. Frischer named Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Le Bonheur Children's and UT Health Science Center

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) are proud to announce the appointment of Jason S. Frischer, MD, as Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief of Pediatric Surgery.

Dr. Frischer joins Le Bonheur from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he served as Associate Director of the Division of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery. A nationally recognized leader, clinician, and educator, Dr. Frischer brings extensive experience in complex pediatric surgical care and multidisciplinary program development.

An internationally renowned expert in complex colorectal conditions—including Hirschsprung disease, anorectal malformations, cloaca, severe constipation, fecal incontinence, and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis)—Dr. Frischer directed several major programs at Cincinnati Children's. His leadership included more than a decade at the helm of the Colorectal Center, 15 years directing the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program, and 12 years overseeing the Pediatric Surgery Subspecialty Fellowships. He also served as a Professor of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Frischer is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, and the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA), where he will serve as Program Chair for the national meeting for the next two years.

His influence extends globally through surgical missions and teaching initiatives in Abu Dhabi, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Tanzania, and Uganda. As a board member of Mending Kids, Dr. Frischer received the organization's MEND Award in March 2024, recognizing his dedication to advancing pediatric surgical care worldwide. Through his work in Tanzania, he has performed more than 160 complex pediatric colorectal surgeries and led sustainable training programs enabling the local surgical team to provide advanced care independently—dramatically improving long-term outcomes for children in the region.

Dr. Frischer earned his Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University and his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and his pediatric surgery fellowship at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New YorkColumbia University Medical Center. In 2023, he completed the Harvard Surgical Leadership Program, further strengthening his skills in innovation and organizational excellence.
