Heidelberg, June 3, 2025, A study commissioned by Altech and conducted by DNV (Det Norske Veritas) has confirmed that CERENERGY technology offers significant advantages over other stationary battery storage technologies available on the market. DNV is an independent, world-leading, cross-industry consulting and certification company and a leading provider of technical consulting, assessment, and certification services in the renewable energy sector. In the comparative study, DNV evaluated important performance data from CERENERGY alongside other battery technologies such as lithium-ion, sodium-sulfur, and vanadium flow batteries. Among other things, the study certifies that Altech's CERENERGY has an extremely long service life of 15 to 30 years without significant energy storage losses and significantly more charging cycles within 24 hours compared to comparable battery systems available on the market.
DNV also highlights the easy handling without external cooling or heating under all climatic conditions, an extremely wide range of applications, and 100% safety, as the battery is non-flammable, as significant advantages. "CERENERGY is one of the most promising future technologies in the battery sector. Further improvements in terms of achievable energy density, performance, and cost efficiency are expected in the coming years," concludes DNV. Uwe Ahrens, Management Board Member of Altech Advanced Materials: "This study provides a concise and clear overview of the advantages of our CERENERGY battery. It gives a clear and comprehensible overview by an independent third party of the most important key figures and characteristics of the various battery systems and technologies for industrial stationary operation. These results show that with our planned commercialization of CERENERGY, we can deliver significant added value to the urgently needed storage of renewable energies and have a more than competitive product." CERENERGY battery project Altech Batteries GmbH (ABG) is a joint venture with the world's leading German battery institute Fraunhofer IKTS for the marketing of the revolutionary CERENERGY sodium-aluminum oxide solid-state battery (SAS). CERENERGY batteries are the groundbreaking alternative to lithium-ion batteries. CERENERGY batteries are fire and explosion-proof and have a service life of more than 15 years. The battery technology uses common salt and is free of lithium, cobalt, graphite, and copper, eliminating dependence on critical metal price increases and supply chain issues.
The joint venture is marketing its CERENERGY battery and plans to build a 120 MWh production facility on Altech's site in Saxony. The facility will produce CERENERGY battery modules for the grid storage solutions market. About Altech Advanced Materials AG Altech Advanced Materials AG (ISIN: DE000A31C3Y4), based in Frankfurt am Main, is a holding company listed on the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The company's aim is to participate in the market for solid-state batteries for stationary battery applications with CERENERGY.
