FM Cho vows priority efforts for Koreans' return, smooth biz operations in US

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has stressed that the government is prioritizing efforts to safely bring home Koreans detained in Georgia and to ensure smooth operations of Korean businesses in the United States, the foreign ministry said Wednesday. Cho made the remarks during a meeting with Korean businesspeople in Washington on Tuesday (local time), as more than 300 Korean workers have been held in a detention facility since last Thursday following a U.S. immigration sweep at a Korean electric car battery plant site. "Minister Cho emphasized that the government is giving top priority to swiftly and safely bringing the detained Koreans back home, while vowing to ensure that they do not face disadvantages when reentering the U.S. in the future," the ministry said in a press release. A Korean chartered plane left for Atlanta earlier in the day to bring back home the detained workers, including some foreign nationals, after diplomatic talks between Seoul and Washington to resolve the issue.
