Hyundai Motor and Kia vehicles have topped the government’s annual safety test among 11 models available in Korea selected by authorities and through a public poll. In a separate evaluation, the two automakers also earned the highest grades among tested vehicles for battery management capability. Ford recorded the lowest overall grade with one of its SUV models. This year’s Korean New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) evaluated 11 vehicles from eight automakers. The models were categorized by powertrain type — electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, internal combustion engine vehicles and hydrogen-powered cars. Hyundai’s Ioniq 9 and Palisade, along with Kia’s Tasman were selected by the public to undergo testing. The remaining vehicles were chosen jointly by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, a state-run agency under the ministry, based on market presence and potential safety concerns.
