Landmark state policy unlocks funding for schools and reduces barriers to higher education for students and families

NEW YORK, May 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Education group at Cambridge University Press & Assessment (Cambridge) is today celebrating a landmark policy change in Indiana that guarantees automatic admission to all of the state's public colleges and universities to students who complete the Cambridge AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) Diploma. By recognizing this rigorous academic achievement, Indiana expands access to post-secondary education while giving students a clearer, more confident path to their future.

Indiana's new graduation policy now counts the Cambridge AICE Diploma toward earning the Honors Enrollment Plus Seal, an advanced diploma starting with the Class of 2029. Students who earn this seal will get automatic admission to public colleges in Indiana, including Indiana University, Purdue, and Ball State.

To earn the AICE Diploma, students must complete 7 credits in Cambridge Advanced (International AS & A Level) courses and exams. Further, students who earn the Diploma or who pass any Cambridge International AS & A Level exams are guaranteed college credit at Indiana public colleges and universities, reducing the length and cost of their degree program.

"We are delighted that Indiana has taken this bold step to recognize the AICE Diploma as a pathway to guaranteed college admission," said Mark Cavone, Regional Director, North America for International Education at Cambridge. "Students who complete the AICE Diploma are extremely well prepared through Cambridge International AS and A Levels to succeed in college and contribute meaningfully to their communities. We are proud to support schools across the state in making this opportunity more widely available."

Cambridge AICE unlocks school funding

Under the new legislation, Indiana will allocate up to $500,000 annually for two years to support Indiana schools implementing the Cambridge program – an internationally recognized pathway to college success. Indiana public schools will also receive $2,495 for each student who earns the AICE Diploma, supporting expanded access to high-quality academic programs. Under existing legislation, students can take up to three Cambridge exams each year fully funded by the state, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to participation. These policies strengthen the bridge between high school graduation and post-secondary education, helping students build momentum toward their future without added complexity.

The AICE diploma is the culmination of the Cambridge Pathway, which provides a flexible PreK-12 instructional system that aligns rigorous curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment to support students at every stage of their academic journey. Cambridge qualifications are accepted by more than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities and thousands more globally. Students who take Cambridge courses and exams may also earn valuable college credit while still in high school.
