REI Cooperative Action Fund announces spring 2025 grantees
The REI Fund's latest grant efforts will distribute over $7 million to 76 nonprofits creating a more accessible and inclusive outdoors
SEATTLE, June 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The REI Cooperative Action Fund, a community-driven nonprofit that supports organizations doing the essential work in making the outdoors more accessible and inclusive for everyone, announced the 76 organizations receiving a collective $7.2 million during its spring 2025 grant cycle, supporting their efforts to improve the health and well-being of people and communities through time spent outside.
The REI Fund's latest grant efforts will distribute over $7 million to 76 nonprofits."We are incredibly grateful to the REI community of individuals, family foundations and businesses who are leaning into our mission to expand access to the healing powers of the outdoors, including a recent transformative gift over $2M supporting Justice Outside, Latino Outdoors, and Outdoor Afro," said Kristen Ragain, managing director of the REI Cooperative Action Fund. "This catalytic funding comes at a critical time when even more research confirms the vital role that the outdoors play in support of mental health at every age."
The REI Cooperative Action Fund was launched in 2021 with the mission of supporting nonprofits dedicated to strengthening the health and well-being of people and communities through time outside. Fueled by community donations, this latest investment brings the REI Cooperative Action Fund's total giving to approximately $31 million since its launch.
For the spring grant cycle, half of the grantees stem from the REI Fund's Connecting People Outside grant portfolio, which supports nonprofits connecting historically excluded communities to the outdoors — cultivating joy, healing, belonging, connection and well-being, including:
- We Hike to Heal builds inclusive spaces where women prioritize self-care, find healing in nature and nurture their mental and emotional well-being.
- Minority Veterans of America creates accessible and welcoming outdoor experiences for veterans and their families. Through time in nature, they support veterans in the transition from military service to civilian life while providing opportunities to build long term resilience.
- Adaptive Adventures brings progressive outdoor adventures to individuals with physical disabilities and their families, regardless of location, equipment needs or economic status.
