Singer Cha Eun-woo to host APEC summit welcome dinner

Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo, who is currently serving his mandatory military duty, will emcee the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit's welcome dinner Friday, the defense ministry said. Cha, a member of K-pop boy band Astro, will perform as the event's host in the southeastern city of Gyeongju after the summit preparation committee reportedly requested the ministry's permission for his appearance. Cha, who entered boot camp in July, is carrying out his service at a military band under the ministry. He currently holds the rank of Army private first class. The dinner event is scheduled to be attended by global leaders and top delegates of the 21 APEC economies, including President Lee Jae Myung, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. It is also set to feature a performance by K-pop star G-Dragon, an honorary ambassador for the APEC summit.
