NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- TED, the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change, today announced a bold new chapter in its history. Following a nine-month search, TED's board has appointed Sal Khan, founder and CEO of Khan Academy, as board member and Vision Steward and Logan McClure Davda as Chief Executive Officer.

TED, the nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change.

The announcement follows a period of extensive consultation with close to 100 organizations, investors and individuals worldwide prompted by the decision by Chris Anderson, who has led TED for 25 years, to invite in a new steward. After receiving numerous proposals — including offers to acquire TED outright — the organization reaffirmed its commitment to remain a nonprofit dedicated to freely sharing knowledge and ideas with the world.

"From the start, our goal was to find a way for TED to grow its impact while preserving its soul," said Chris Anderson, who has led TED for 25 years. "Sal Khan embodies the spirit of generosity and curiosity that defines TED. He's a visionary who has proven that technology and learning can serve humanity at scale — without losing integrity or heart."

Under the new structure, Khan will join the TED board as Vision Steward, working closely with TED's leadership to guide long-term strategy while continuing his full-time role leading Khan Academy. He will help shape TED's evolving mission around lifelong learning, community engagement and using technology — including AI — to deepen human connection and understanding.

"TED has been one of the world's great amplifiers of ideas," said Sal Khan. "I'm honored to help steward its next chapter — one that will further empower people everywhere to learn, connect and collaborate for a better future."

TED also announced the appointment of Logan McClure Davda as CEO. Davda, a longtime TED leader who co-founded the TED Fellows program and most recently served as Head of Impact, will oversee day-to-day operations and drive the next phase of TED's growth and innovation.

"Logan brings deep understanding of TED's culture, values and community," said Anderson. "Her partnership with Sal gives TED the ideal combination of visionary imagination and trusted operational leadership."'

"I began at TED in 2008, and have seen ideas travel and change the world — their ripples are real," added Logan McClure Davda. "With Sal shaping the vision ahead, it's an extraordinary — and humbling — moment to step in as CEO. I'm excited to work with Chris, Jay, Sal, and our leadership team to keep TED focused, imaginative and impactful."

Outgoing CEO Jay Herratti, who led TED through more than a decade of transformation — including the expansion of TEDx and the challenges of the pandemic — will join TED's board, ensuring continuity and guidance during the transition.

Anderson will remain a TED board member, focusing on fundraising, community building and curatorial support, while leading the celebrations for TED2026 in Vancouver, where he will officially "pass the torch" to Khan and Davda.

A detailed blog post by Anderson, "TED's New Chapter Begins," published today on TED.com/blog, outlines the full story behind the transition and the principles guiding TED's future. The organization will host a global community conversation next month to invite ideas and feedback, and will soon announce the creation of a new Ideas Council — a braintrust to guide TED's evolving mission.

"For decades, TED has been a platform for spreading ideas that change lives," said Anderson. "Now, we're preparing it for the next generation — one that learns, collaborates and dreams together."

About TED

TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through The Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze $6.6 billion in funding for projects that support bold solutions to the world's most urgent challenges — working to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
