SAN DIEGO, Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Identity Theft Resource Center® (ITRC), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization established to support victims of identity crime, is supporting Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025. The global effort is led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) to promote safer digital practices for individuals and organizations alike.

The Identity Theft Resource Center will also promote its new cyber-hygiene quiz during Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025.

In its 22nd year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a call to action for everyone to take responsibility for their online safety. This year's theme, "Stay Safe Online," emphasizes the importance of empathy, accessibility and shared responsibility in creating a safer digital world.

"Once again, the ITRC is a Champion of Cybersecurity Awareness Month," said Eva Velasquez, CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center. "By joining in this effort, we are empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge that make online safety feel achievable and approachable. We want to help educate people from all walks of life on how they can stay safe online."

For Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025, the ITRC will release its annual Consumer Impact Report (CIR) on Tuesday, October 28. The CIR goes beyond the known financial implications of identity crimes and explores the lost opportunities as well as the emotional, physical and psychological impacts experienced by victims resulting from the crimes. The ITRC will also promote its new cyber-hygiene quiz during Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025. Online safety, or cyber-hygiene, is an important and evolving topic.  Best practices can help people improve their online security and reduce their risk of being victimized by an identity crime. The ITRC's quiz tests cyber knowledge with a few quick questions and gives tips on how to stay safe online at the end. To take the quiz, click here.

Finally, consumers can check out the ITRC's latest podcasts, the Fraudian Slip (monthly), where we talk about all things identity theft, fraud and scams that impact people and businesses, as well as the Weekly Breach Breakdown (weekly), covering the most recent events and trends related to data security and privacy. For Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024, the ITRC spoke with NCA Executive Director (and ITRC Advisory Board member) Lisa Plaggemier about the global effort.  Click here to listen to the podcast.
