University of Rochester Medical Center Taps Qualified Health as Enterprise-Wide GenAI Solution
Qualified Health delivers generative AI technology with built-in safeguards and real-time insights to ease administrative workload and improve the patient experience
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Qualified Health announced today that the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) will license and deploy its enterprise-wide generative AI platform designed to measurably reduce administrative burden on clinicians by automating business and regulatory workflows within a secure, tightly-controlled genAI environment.
"We are taking steps to strategically integrate generative AI to help alleviate the burden of repetitive administrative tasks, empowering our clinical and operational teams to devote more time to patient care and other high-value activities," said Kathleen Fear, Senior Director of Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence at UR Medicine. "In doing so, we aim to enhance, not replace, the expertise that defines our organization."
As part of this license, URMC and its UR Medicine patient care network will implement Qualified Health's full-stack generative AI platform, which combines a full suite of generative AI solutions with automated agent development, secure access controls, enforceable governance, and real-time performance monitoring designed specifically for safe and trustworthy use in the healthcare setting.
UR Medicine is one of New York State's largest and most comprehensive patient care networks, spanning eight hospitals, an NCI-designated cancer center, more than 20 urgent care centers, a broad primary care network, and nationally recognized schools of medicine, dentistry, and nursing. Qualified Health's platform will be available to approximately 32,000 employees, including more than 3,000 researchers and 2,000 physicians—fostering safe, secure, responsible, and person-centered GenAI adoption across administrative tasks and workflows.
"Working with Qualified Health helps us strengthen our commitment to safe and responsible integration of AI technologies within administrative workflows," says Lisa Nelson, Chief Applications Officer at URMC and UR Medicine. "We're able to harness their infrastructure and discipline as we work toward a system-wide, centralized strategy, where AI is deployed while preserving and building upon our top-quality patient experience and health outcomes."
As part of its deployment, Qualified Health will provide hands-on training and ongoing support to facilitate and sustain administrative workflow improvements.
"Generative AI has the potential to radically transform health systems, but realizing that promise at enterprise scale, with the right safeguards and accountability, is a complex challenge," said Justin Norden, MD, MBA, MPhil, CEO of Qualified Health. "Our platform was purpose-built to meet that challenge, enabling URMC to lead with confidence, drive real results, and ensure AI delivers lasting value for patients, providers, researchers, and administrative staff."
Generative AI in healthcare has frequently been limited to small pilots with uneven results and little lasting impact. URMC's deployment of Qualified Health offers a unified, network-wide strategy designed to improve clinician wellbeing and patient experience, accelerate access to treatment, and create an environment where patients may experience the downstream benefits of safe and trustworthy AI-driven improvements.
"Generative AI has the potential over time to transform healthcare in a positive way, but only if it's deployed with the right guardrails," said Gregg Nicandri, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer for URMC and UR Medicine. "Qualified Health brings us additional expertise and an infrastructure that promotes safe and responsible AI integration."
