Beck's memoir shares his private personal story, relatable struggles that many people face in personal circumstances such as homelessness, feeling different within one's own family, and facing life's everyday pressures. The author transparently shares his emotional journey navigating through depression and anxiety and monumental loss stemming from the tragic deaths of his loved ones. Amidst his many mental health challenges and grief, Beck also suffered a serious compound fracture, the result of a fall in 2023. That injury took almost two full years for him to heal and persevere through without any permanent damage. His story will provide inspiration for others walking a relatable path in life.

When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Beck said, "The struggles I faced throughout my life, from my early childhood all the way into my adulthood, and more specifically, my mental health issues, such as depression, and the adversity I faced due to my autism, homelessness, and ADHD."

Michael Beck was born in New York City and raised in a small town about twenty miles north of the city. He and his sister grew up in a neighborhood among a very competitive crowd, with the expectations to achieve high grades, participate in extracurricular activities, and attend an Ivy League school. Beck was ultimately separated from the other students as a child, when the school administration claimed he had a learning disability and placed him in the Learning Resource Center. Feeling alienated at school, Beck developed an onset of depression as an adolescent, and those struggles escalated to addiction, and additional challenges from autism that have continued throughout his adulthood.

Beck graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, in 2020, and is working in the culinary field. He possesses ample experience working in restaurants as he has done for most of his adult life and now, he has returned to work for a previous employer in a delicatessen. Beck is passionate about music and literature, and that includes playing the piano and reading books of all genres. He has always been relatively athletic, with track and cross country as his favorite sports. In addition, Beck participated in martial arts classes during his youth.
