FM Cho seeks to accelerate cooperation with US in atomic energy, nuclear-powered subs

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has highlighted Korea's efforts to accelerate cooperation with the United States in areas including atomic energy and its push to build nuclear-powered submarines, the foreign ministry said Wednesday. Cho made the remark on Tuesday in a meeting with a visiting delegation from the National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP), a New York-based think tank, noting that the recent two summit talks between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump mark a new milestone in bilateral relations. "Minister Cho said that the two countries will maintain close communication across all channels and further accelerate cooperation in key areas, including nuclear energy, shipbuilding and nuclear-powered submarines," the ministry said in a release. He also underscored Seoul's commitment to advancing the alliance in a more mutually beneficial and future-oriented manner, amid a rapidly changing security and economic environment, the ministry said.
